Nawal Leon Kurson Joins Team Australia

Artistic Swimming Australia (ASA) is delighted to announce another addition to its team Nawal Leon Kurson, as the Assistant Coach at the Hancock Prospecting National Training Centre. Nawal started with Artistic Swimming as an athlete at the age of nine in Spain and swam at a national level for ten years. After finishing high school, she relocated to the UK and coached alongside Biz Price and Lolli Montico, helping junior and senior-aged British athletes. This was where she discovered her passion for coaching. Shortly after, she moved to Australia in 2013 and became involved with the Australian National Squads.
She has been an active member of the Australian Artistic Swimming community for the past ten years, holding positions as a coach for both Junior and Senior National Teams, Head Coach for Perth-based club West Coach Splash, and a member of the High-Performance Committee.
“I am so excited to take on this role and coach alongside Paula Klamburg Roque; I feel very grateful to have this opportunity.
We can’t wait to centralise the team and start working together at the Centre of Excellence in Perth. Our main goal is to focus on technical improvement, and the rest will follow. We have a great cohort of talented athletes coming through and some big goals and objectives ahead of us, so our motivation is very high!
Performance Director Richard Vaughan commented, “It is great to have Nawal on board; it adds alignment with Paula as Nawal has been on the ground in Australia, specifically in Perth. This is the final appointment after several long months establishing the National Programme, and we have a great team with Paula, Krisztina, Nawal, and the other Pathway coaches”.
