For The Love of Artistic Swimming

By Suzie Ryan

Artistic Swimming could not run without the help of volunteers, that’s the view of ASAI president Kim Davis.

The former synchronised swimmer and current Artistic Swimming Australia president said the sport is growing in Australia thanks to the support and help of volunteers.

“Our sport wouldn’t exist and run in Australia without volunteers,” Ms Davis said.

“I would say 90-95% of the work done for Artistic Swimming from events to board member roles in Australia is done by volunteers.”

The majority of the roles in events, admin, treasury and finance at Artistic Swimming Australia are all organised and run by volunteers.

The volunteers that keep Artistic Swimming alive in Australia do it for the love of the sport, the passion they have for the water and nothing else.

“Many of our volunteers come from family members of existing swimmers and former swimmers too,” Ms Davis said.

“It’s great to see that once swimmers and their families move on from the sport competitively, they continue to be involved and volunteer because they love the sport of Artistic Swimming. I personally used to be a synchronised swimmer in Canada and saw how the sport thrived with great volunteers. It is why I started volunteering with Artistic Swimming Australia and continue to do so in my role as president.”
